Looking for a new home can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially if you're a first-time homebuyer. Here are some helpful tips!
Get Preapproved for a Loan
-
It’s hard to shop for a home without knowing what you can afford! The first step in your home buying process should be getting preapproved for a loan. At Security BankUSA, our experienced and friendly lenders – Anne Kehoe, Max Cloose, and Ashlee Curb can help! They will look at your income, assets and credit score to determine what loans you could be approved for, how much you can borrow, and what your interest rate might be. This process is FREE! The easiest way to do this is to apply online or apply through our Mortgage App. You can also call and set up an appointment with Anne, Max, or Ashlee.
2.Consider a Real Estate Agent
-
The Bemidji area has many wonderful real estate agents that will guide you through the process of finding the right home for you. Realtors have extensive knowledge of what’s available and will search for the right homes to fit your budget. They will also negotiate and advocate on your behalf, and will generally oversee the home buying process. Working with an experienced agent can be a great relief, especially with first-time home buyers.
3. Location, Location, Location
-
It’s important to really think about how close you want to be to your workplace, your kids' school, lake access, and other places that are important to you. Also, spend time in the area and get a feel for the neighborhood you're considering.
4. Size and Layout
-
Consider how many bedrooms and bathrooms you'll need for all of your loved ones. Picture yourself preparing meals in the kitchen.
-
Don’t forget about storage - you need plenty of space for all your precious belongings! Is there a garage? Is it big enough to store all your vehicles, tools, and toys?
-
Consider how much outdoor space in needed. Is there room for a garden? A fence for your dog? Think about what is most important to you and your family.
5. Check the Condition
-
Before you fall head over heels for a potential home, make sure to give it a thorough inspection! Take a closer look at the roof, foundation, HVAC system, electrical wiring, plumbing, and appliances to ensure everything is in tip-top shape.
-
Keep an eye out for any signs of wear and tear, water damage, or unwelcome guests (i.e., pests).
Buying a home is one of the biggest investments you can make for your future. At Security BankUSA, we want to help you with this process. To get started, search for Security BankUSA Mortgage in your app store, or give us a call! We wish you the best of luck with your new home!
