Scramble Success!

Scramble Success!

The 30th Annual Security BankUSA Lumberjack Scramble was a huge success, raising a whopping $65,975! All proceeds from the Security BankUSA Lumberjack Golf Scramble are donated to the Bemidji Lumberjack Foundation and benefits Bemidji High School and Bemidji Middle School activities. To date, the Scramble has raised $1,045,262 for the Bemidji Lumberjack Foundation!

The Security BankUSA Lumberjack Scramble evolved from a discussion by two Bemidji High School faculty members, Jim Mergens and Jon Sand, brainstorming a to find a way to supplement their athletic budgets because of lack of funds throughout the School District. Jim then approached John Baer, (retired Security BankUSA President) about a possible sponsorship for a fundraising golf tournament. John Baer, who has always been a strong community supporter and a third-generation community banker welcomed the opportunity to be the sponsor of the event. The first Security BankUSA Lumberjack Scramble took place on August 11, 1995.

The Scramble is truly a wonderful event!  There are families that play as a team every year and many coming from different parts of the country. The Scramble is also unique in the sense of having mixed teams. Many BHS alumni play in the Scramble when they return to Bemidji for their class reunion. Also, student athletes and coaches volunteer to help on the course, and the Bemidji High School Band plays between sessions.  Businesses from the area and beyond have contributed to the event by being a hole sponsor or by donating silent auction, raffle, and door prizes.

Security BankUSA thanks their amazing community and everyone who participates for their past and continued support. They are proud to be apart of such a generous and supportive community!
